My brother Dave Nicoll who was a member probably from 1996 when he built his first coracle on a Terry Kenny’s course on the weekend of the Ironbridge regatta of that year, died on Saturday 20th April after a short illness aged 85
Coraclemaker needed for exciting new project!
21 March 2024
We are working with the UK Men's Shed Association to introduce Sheds to coraclemaking, in order to increase the volume of coracles being built and used, and hopefully secure the future of coraclemaking in the UK, which is under threat as listed in the Heritage Crafts Association's Red List of Endangered Crafts.
Five Men's Sheds have volunteered to participate in a pilot scheme to get the initiative started and build courses are being organised with the help of Society members as tutors.
We are looking for a member to volunteer to run a two day course for one of the participating sheds at Brundall, near Norwich at their premises in Brooms Boat Marina - just a few yards from their local river. They are very keen to get started and the location is ideal for this pilot build.
With 1000 branches, and more in the pipeline the Committee are very keen to work with the UKMSA and hope that Society members are able to rise to the challenge and assist in every way to help us make a success of this project.
If you are interested in running this build near Norwich, please contact the Secretary for more information.
